A house where time seems to slow down

Set high in the Atlas Mountains, above the clear waters of Lake Bin El Ouidane, stands a house where time seems to slow down. Casa Medusa is a guesthouse for those who seek authenticity, nature and genuine hospitality.

More than a place to stay, it is a place to reconnect with what truly matters.

Here, days begin with sunrise over the lake. They unfold through mountain hikes, visits to Berber villages, water sports on the lake, or quiet hours in untouched nature. As evening falls, the stillness, the starlit sky and the soft mountain air offer a timeless escape.

Whether you are planning a romantic getaway, a retreat into nature, a family holiday or simply a pause from everyday life, Casa Medusa will soon welcome you in an atmosphere that is elegant, warm and authentic.

A place where the art of hospitality meets the beauty of the Moroccan Atlas, and where every stay becomes a lasting memory.

Karim Mekayssi

Behind this venture stands Karim Mekayssi, a man whose path reflects a lifelong devotion to simplicity, passion and the art of passing things on.

Born in Oujda, Karim grew up in Ouaouizeght, a village in the Atlas Mountains. It was there, from an early age, that he learned to respect nature, to value work done with care, and to understand the true meaning of Moroccan hospitality.

It all began with painting.

As a young man, he discovered the joy of transforming spaces, breathing new life into them and revealing their hidden beauty. This passion gave him a keen eye for detail, colour and texture. Over the years, his creativity naturally extended to wood, stone, gardens and other natural materials, until building, restoring and creating became a true calling.

Every space here tells a story. Each stone, each piece of wood, each corner of the garden bears the mark of a man who loves to create with his hands and to welcome guests with his heart.

Casa Medusa is the culmination of that journey.

A name born of wonder

The name Casa Medusa was born of a moment of wonder. The day Karim first set eyes on this land, he stood spellbound, as if turned to stone by the gaze of Medusa, the legendary figure of Greek mythology.

It was February 2022. A neighbour asked Karim whether he might be interested in a plot of land in Bin El Ouidane. Knowing the area well, he agreed to take a look. The track up the hill was rough, and with no road yet leading to the land, they had to leave the car behind and continue on foot.

The first thing he noticed was an old threshing floor. In times past, after the harvest, mules would circle a central post to thresh the wheat while the wind carried the chaff away from the grain. The villagers of old had chosen this spot for good reason: it was open to the sun and naturally swept by the breeze.

Then he came upon two ancient olive trees and a magnificent Peruvian pepper tree. His mind was made up on the spot.

“This place turned me to stone, in the most wonderful way. I was simply in awe. I have travelled widely, to Spain, Malta, Greece, Portugal, Scandinavia and France…”

“This is where I found my place on earth.”

The wooden post that once stood at the centre of the threshing floor was not discarded. Karim set it above the front door of the house as a symbol of baraka, a blessing, and there it lives on.

As the building work progressed, a bond of trust grew with the neighbours. They welcomed Karim with respect: tools were lent, favours returned, and friendships formed day by day.

First imagined as a home for his retirement, Casa Medusa has since become a place to share: a haven of well-being where everyone can come to find calm, peace and that same feeling of being exactly where they belong.
